Initial Thoughts

"I just received this jacket in the mail two weeks ago. Here are a few of my initial thoughts and or impressions after ordering both the men’s medium and large sizes. For reference, I am 5’10” and 160 pounds: THE GOOD: 1. Being that it is a belay jacket, I figured it was going going to be cut very large. It is cut adequately, however, I found the size large to fit better for belay purposes versus the men’s medium. The size large gave me a little bit more room for better layering, especially if I wanted to add a 60 g/m2 synthetic jacket to help defend against internal humidity and moisture. 2. I am very particular about hoods on belay jackets and the hood on this jacket is monstrous, which is fantastic in my opinion. I like to layer my jackets, including anywhere from 1 to 3 hoods on at once, all over my climbing helmet. This hood swells all of them up without issue and is the biggest, likely warmest hood I have ever owned. I tip my hat to Mammut! 3. The outer Pertex material feels bomber and should not have durability issues. Yes, it adds a little bulk and a little more weight versus something like Patagonia’s Grade VII, however, I feel this jacket, especially in the alpine, will take much more abuse, especially near sharp rock. THE BAD: 1. The front main zipper, when zipped all the way up, slides down half an inch or so. I don’t know if this will affect much of anything when actually using for ballet purposes, but I wish the zipper locked in place where it’s supposed to. 2. As mentioned, this is much heavier than the Grade VII. This is likely due to the PERTEX fabric, but it does outweigh the Grade VII by almost 200 g size dependent. Once I have this jacket in practical use, I will report back. and identify any other issues I’ve noticed. The aforementioned issues may not be a problem in the field, we will see."

Etwas zu teuer

"Nach 4 Monaten bietet Intersport die Jacke für 500,- Euro an,das sind 450 ,- Euro weniger . Da bin ich echt enttäuscht von Mammut . Ich hatte meine noch nicht einmal an."

Nice performing jacket

"I've been using this jacket as part of my cold weather gear lineup. It retains warmth well in subzero temps. A very good jacket all around. I would only like to offer one suggestion for an improvement. The main zipper should be a bigger gauge with a larger feed channel. With cold hands, or low light, or impaired sight its not perfectly easy to get the zipper started. Outside of that, the construction is better than a lot of comparable jackets. Go for it!"

Below 0 Static moment tested

"When dealing with temperatures at -1^\circ\text and below, the "silver bullet" jacket is a myth. The secret to staying comfortable is a high-caliber layering system. Here is my tried-and-true setup for extreme cold: BELAY LAYER: This jacket Outer Layer: Mammut HS (Hard Shell) Mid-Layer 1: RIB Primaloft Puffer Mid-Layer 2: Sitka 200g Primaloft Jacket Base Layer: 300g Merino Wool Long Sleeve Used in this specific order, I promise you will stay warm and comfortable, no questions asked. Im 6'3" 220 good build I wear a 2xL fit is true to size"

NH Cold Rated Jacket

"I only wear this when it’s well below freezing. It’s bombproof and warm. My other down jackets are lightweight so I’m reluctant to ski in them. I bought this for skiing on and off piste with some trees that would shred a less robust jacket."

Extreme cold weather gear

"I live in Wisconsin January an February get into -1/-20 consistently somedays even colder with the wind chill this jacket paired with mammuts Soild HS jacket will keep below zero temps at bay I test my gear by how it holds up in static moment several hours at a time im 6'3" 216LIB and big snug as a bug in a 2xl Id even considering ordering their expedition Down jacket next"

Beautifully made - sizing is off

"A beautiful jacket. Well made and extremely warm. It’s enormous on the sizing though so size down. Small says 91cm chest but it’s huge even allowing for layering. Please make this in an XS!"
