Perhaps two of the most important climbers you’ve never heard of, brothers Yves and Claude Remy have been shaping the sport of climbing for over 50 years. Trailblazers throughout the rise of rock climbing as a popular sport, the Remys began to open new routes in Switzerland in 1970 and have gone on to bolt thousands of legendary ascents across the globe, amassing a stunning array of first ascents including some 15,000 pitches. In Switzerland, there is no big wall that hasn’t been shaped by the Remy brothers’ relentless pursuit of exploration, from Les Diablerets, to Sanetsch, Grimsel, Gastlosen and the Wendenstöcke. Thanks to the unfiltered and ultimately unshakable bond only siblings can share, Yves and Claude have contributed to the accessibility of climbing in Switzerland perhaps more than any other climbers. It’s time to meet the Remy brothers.
