Waarom we FLEXTRON hebben ontwikkeld

Very good, lightweigth and flexible

"I have Kento Mountain Guide for alpinism or Rocky trips, Trovat for trek and these ones for hikking a day or two or just a walk in the forest. Very well build and confortable as usual. Waterproof is okay if not rainning a lot. As my other shoes I would fecommend a size upper than usaual if you are coming feom another brand."

Superb boots

"Really well made in a fantastic design and incredibly comfortable. They are quite a narrow fit, so not much room if your feet swell."

Good for dry conditions

"I’ve had these boots for about a year. Overall I really like them but they have two major flaws. First, they take about one month of daily use before they break in and the hot spots ease off. Unusual for a synthetic boot but they are pretty stiff when new and it takes a while for the materials to adjust to your foot. Second, I would say they are not waterproof whatsoever. If I wear them to cross 100 feet of wet grass my socks are completely soaked by the time I reach the other side. Any water that gets on the fabric portion of the boot immediately penetrates through to the foot. I own a boot dryer and these boots spend more time on the boot dryer than any boot I have ever owned. They are about a year old but it seems that they probably have a DWR coating which helps when new, but loses functionality quickly. I would guess there’s a small GoreTex piece somewhere in the construction that allows Mammut to market the boot as GoreTex. Otherwise the fit is good when broken in and the boot is great for dry conditions. Using them on a backpacking trip could be a disaster."

Dry conditions only

"I’ve owned the Ducan GTX for about a year and while I really like the fit and the traction there are a couple flaws worth noting. First, the break-in period for these boots is among the longest I’ve experienced, especially for a synthetic boot. Plan on at least a month of daily use before the hotspots ease. Second, these boots are absolutely not waterproof in the slightest. Walking across 100 feet of wet grass will result in your socks being completely soaked in under one minute. Any water that gets on the fabric portion of the boot immediately penetrates the boot. DWR coating? Maybe. GoreTex? Not a chance. They are the least waterproof pair of boots I have owned. I own a boot dryer and these boots spend an hour on the dryer even after just walking the dogs in the morning for 15 minutes. Wearing them on a backpacking trip would be a disaster. For dry conditions they are great. It would be a huge mistake to bring them backpacking."

Impressive Performers

"My last boots were Mammuts and they proved to be the best boots I'd ever had. Sumptuous soft leather wrapping around the ankles and just a great overall boot. One of the soles developed an annoying squeak after about 11 months use and Mammut replaced them without question. The second pair served me well for 10 years, although both soles did eventually develop that annoying squeak - but that's down to Vibram. I wasn't sure about the rather unconventional appearance of the Ducans, but was attracted by the light weight and my previous positive appearance with the brand. Out the box they almost look too smart for the hills, almost like a pair of dancing shoes - but you might actually find yourself dancing across the hills in them! On further reflection, the design of the uppers minimises stitching and therefore reduces the risk of water ingress, and the look sort of grows on you! These are my first non-leather boots, and only time will tell how durable they are, but my initial impressions are very positive. I learned very early on in hillwalking, after considerable pain and blisters hiking the South Downs Way long distance path in the UK many years back, to go for a size larger than your normal footwear, but with my last Mammuts i ended up going up an extra half size further to 10. 5, and although overall a good fit i could never quite get a satisfactorily tight wrap around my ankles. These Ducan IIIs seemed a tight fit in the store, and because they didn't stock half sizes i ended up with size 11s and slight reservations about whether they would prove too loose. This proved absolutely unfounded. Probably largely because they are fabric uppers rather than leather, it proved easy to get a really snug fit, in fact it was all too easy to have them too tight by being too strenuous with the laces. With a bit of experience, these boots can be tightened to just the right tension around both the foot area and the ankles, even without the locking lace hooks that my previous Mammuts featured, and the fabric just wraps around your feet to give a fit as snug as a pair of lounge slippers. The boots took very little time to wear in and were feeling really comfortable after three short walks of about 4 miles each. They're the lightest boots I've ever had too, by some margin, and this adds to a really relaxed feel, to the point where you almost feel you've just got a normal pair of shoes on, but with all the assured grip and ankle protection that only good high-fit technical walking boots can deliver. The sole units (Vibram again) are, in my opinion, superb, easily the best soles I've ever had. Combined with the supportive fit of the uppers, they provide an extremely sure-footed walking experience on all sorts of terrain, even uneven surfaces full of tree roots and stones, with just the right amount of feel of the ground underfoot. I've not yet tested them on very wet rock or wood, but on damp wooden footbridges I would say they perform better than average. I'm not sure how much the performance of these soles is owed to Mammut's Flextron midsole plate but I suspect it's quite a lot. Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the Ducan IIIs a couple of months down the road, and they seem destined to be my next best-ever walking boots. If you're tempted to buy, just make sure you go for a size that gives you a comfortable fit even if it means upsizing a bit."
