Awesome town and day pack

"I needed a pack to replace my old Patagonia nine-trails, and that was a tough ask. I needed a pack that had a waist strap, but would get out of the way during daily shopping but available for weekend hikes. And it had to have enough room to fit a bunch of groceries day in and day out. I ordered this pack hoping it would fit my needs, but ready to send it back if it didn't. First thing I noticed after unpacking was how narrow it is, it really sits well on my back, but leaves my arms unencumbered. Then I started to find stuff that was super cool. The nine-trails had a pouch on the back that I used for my bike lock, but the Alto has a side zip that lets me get right into the main compartment of the pack, like its Trion brother. On the right side there's a super convenient side pocket where I can stuff my change for shopping or my phone when I'm hiking. The waist strap and the chest strap both come off really easily so it turns into a day pack from a hiking pack in about ten seconds which I love. I hate having excess straps flapping around in town. Also, the Alto turns out to be bigger and better at fitting groceries than my old nine-trails because there's no curve in the back, so the zipper is less stressed at the top when I load it up, super good. Finally, and I just noticed this yesterday (after six weeks of constant use) the material on the bottom is super reinforced which means that it still looks great. Really happy with this pack, and getting more impressed with Mammut gear all the time. I still love Patagonia for clothes, but for gear, I'm moving towards Mammut bigly!"
