RESPONSIBLY MADE PREMIUM PRODUCTS
Als Schweizer Premium-Outdoor-Marke mit Wurzeln, die bis ins Jahr 1862 zurĂĽckreichen, haben wir den starken Drang, Bewahrenswertes zu erhalten und noch nicht Perfektes zu verbessern.
For the protection of the environment, MAMMUT strives to safeguard clean production processes with minimal emissions. To prevent harmful substances from being released into the environment, MAMMUT ensures they never enter its supply chains in the first place.
Standards and Partners
As per- and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) are barely degradable in nature, we at MAMMUT have set ourselves the strategic goal of progressively switching all treatments of our products to PFC-free alternatives in a stepwise, performance oriented process. Detailed information on the strategy and background on the topic can be found in our PFC Policy.

The bluesign® system ensures that substances that are particularly damaging to the environment are excluded from the production process from the very start and specifies strict guidelines for the use of all other chemicals. In addition to the use of chemicals, bluesign® pays special attention to environmentally friendly, safe production processes and the responsible use of resources.

RESTRICTED SUBSTANCE LIST (RSL)
The MAMMUT Restricted Substance List (RSL) comprises potentially harmful chemicals, whose use in our products is restricted to a level below a safe threshold. Compliance with our RSL is a mandatory minimum requirement for suppliers doing business with MAMMUT. MAMMUT ensures RSL compliance through risk-based systematic testing of products and components.
TARGETS
In order to purposefully continue the successful WE CARE journey and demonstrate strong commitment and leadership for the years to come, MAMMUT has defined broad and ambitious 5-year targets for the design & development period 2018-2023 or the market seasons spring/summer 2020 - spring/summer 2025, respectively.
For the protection of animals, MAMMUT strives to exclusively source materials of animal origin from responsible animal husbandry. MAMMUT relies on strict, independent and certified animal welfare standards that offer full traceability all the way back to the farm.
ANIMAL WELFARE POLICY
We constantly strive to uphold the highest animal welfare standards – not only for ourselves, but for the industry as a whole. To make good on this promise, we work with various partners along the entire supply chain.
Mammut works exclusively with farms practicing responsible animal husbandry and has set a long-term goal of achieving full supply chain transparency. We have strict requirements and long-term targets for all animal-based materials, namely down, wool and leather. No animals may be slaughtered specifically for the production of our products, meaning that we only use animal materials that are byproducts from the meat industry. We have always said no to fur, and we will never use hair, hide or any other material from exotic or endangered species.
Mammut requires that suppliers of animal-based materials adhere to the strictest international standards for the farming, transport and slaughtering of livestock. These standards fall into five categories:
1. Good nutrition
2. Good environment
3. Good health
4. Appropriate behaviour
5. Positive mental experiences
Whenever possible, we also use recycled animal hair as well as sustainable and innovative non-animal-based alternatives that have similar qualities.
Since its founding in 1862, Mammut has never used real fur, and we see no reason to end this tradition. This is why we are also a certified no-fur retailer and member of the Fur Free Retail Alliance.

The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the down and feathers in our products come from geese and ducks that have been treated well. Any removal of down and feathers from live birds as well as force-feeding is strictly prohibited. The entire supply chain is audited by a professional, third party certification body on a yearly basis. The RDS down can be traced back through the whole supply chain, from the final product to the source. All of Mammut’s down has been RDS-certified since 2020.

RE:DOWN stands for recycled down, which is reclaimed from old bedding products and sleeping bags that can’t be resold. The down is collected, sorted, washed and sterilized in an environmentally friendly process. It offers the same performance as virgin down and the quality of the down is tested at every step of the production, according to internationally recognized standards. The whole supply chain and process is Global Recycled Standard certified.

The Responsible Wool Standard is an independent standard, which ensures that wool comes from farms with a progressive approach to managing their land, and from sheep that have been treated responsibly. Through the processing stages, certification ensures that wool from certified farms is properly identified and tracked. The RWS is currently being implemented in the global wool supply chain. MAMMUT is committed to source wool according to the RWS as soon as it becomes available. All of the wool we use to make our products is already mulesing-free. By summer 2025, it will all be sourced from RWS-certified farms as well.

LEATHER
An independent, global standard for leather that assures sustainable tanning processes, animal welfare and the traceability of materials does not yet exist. This is why MAMMUT works with carefully selected tanneries that use controlled processes to produce high-quality leather. For nubuck leathers used in our shoes, we prefer to use terracare® leather from Lederfabrik Josef Heinen, the traditional German leather manufacturer. All of our leather suppliers have a Leather Working Group rating of Silver or above. All of our leather comes from meat industry byproducts.

For the protection of natural resources, MAMMUT strives to minimize the environmental footprint of its production processes and products. MAMMUT makes maximal use of environmentally preferable materials and resource-saving manufacturing processes that meet its high quality and performance requirements.
Our climate commitment
Mammut’s climate-strategy «DO OUR BEST – REMOVE THE REST» is a comprehensive plan in line with science that outlines our decarbonization journey towards net zero.
Our Purpose to create a world moved by mountains inspired us to start the movement «together for glaciers». Global warming is the biggest challenge of our time. Since Mammut has been founded in 1862, temperature rose +2°C in the Swiss Alps and Glaciers in the Swiss Mountains have shrunk by 50%. Melting glaciers reflect the accelerating effects of climate change. The loss has the power to move us to act. We are committed to do our best. And remove the rest.

Recycled materials have clear advantages for the environment. Instead of generating more garbage, used products, such as water bottles, are given a new lease on life. Recycling uses less energy than the production of new raw materials. Moreover, by using recycled materials, it is also possible to reduce the dependence on non-renewable fossil raw materials.
Organic cotton preserves the environment by reducing water and energy use, as well as greenhouse gas emissions, and by fostering soil fertility and biodiversity. Furthermore, no toxic pesticides are used, which can end up in the ground, air, water and food supply. Organic cotton ensures that communities prosper from their investment in sustainable agriculture.

SOLUTION DYE
Solution Dye is a modern and sustainable method of coloring. By introducing the color already in the manufacturing process of the fiber, it is integrated in the material from the beginning without the use of water or toxins. By abandoning the conventional practice of water dyeing, the consumption of water, chemicals and energy, as well as the emission of CO2 are significantly reduced.

For the protection of workers, MAMMUT strives to ensure fair and safe working conditions in all factories where its products are made.
To systematically improve workplace conditions in its supply chain, MAMMUT was the first outdoor brand to join the Fair Wear Foundation.
Standards and Partners
The Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) is a consortium of trade unions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and brands collaboratively striving to improve working conditions in the textile and clothing industry.
To ensure the effective implementation of the high FWF standards, MAMMUT has introduced a comprehensive management system and monitors working conditions at its suppliers by means of regular audits and factory visits. An anonymous complaints procedure also allows factory employees to report breaches of the FWF standards directly to the FWF and MAMMUT.
In its capacity as an independent verification body, the Fair Wear Foundation checks the improvement process on site at suppliers and conducts a detailed Brand Performance Check to ascertain the extent to which our management systems and processes are contributing toward an improvement in working conditions at suppliers.

TRANSPARENCY
To implement sustainability measures with respect to environmental and social issues, an in-depth understanding of your own value chain, and therefore also of suppliers, is a vital requirement. We know our suppliers and are pleased to present them:
