Reviews

Excellent rope with no real flaws

"Great alpine climbing rope for 3 man teams, although it is a bit overkill and heavy for 2 people. The single flaw is that the mark designating the middle of the rope fades after a few climbs, which can interfere with effectively coiling the rope. This isn't a huge deal and overall this is a great rope for beginners and advanced climbers."

Great twin rope for mountaineering

"I use this rope primarily for mountaineering and glacier travel. The rope is supple enough to be easy to work with but not so soft to be annoying. The orange is bright and easy to see in snow. It's light enough that I am willing to bring it along, yet still compatible with all devices. Unlike using one of the uber-light 6mm ropes that have become popular I don't have to worry about what devices my rope partners have. Haven't had any issues with the dry treatment or durability. Rope is still going strong. The rope has seen the summit of Rainier, Baker, etc. When it comes time to retire it I'll likely get the same one. Only thing I'd maybe want differently is to have a bi-pattern 50/50 split for rappels."

Awesome For Lots

"I have now used these ropes for just under a year. After a full season of rock and alpine use they are still highly water resistant for ice climbing and haven’t shown any signs of wear. The 8mm feels thin when compared to a burly single, but have proven themselves to be quite enough to deal with wandering pitches on sharp limestone. They are also the only half ropes I have used that don’t immediately tie themselves into knots, which is a huge benefit to maintaining pace and safety on big days."

Thin cord but nice!

"lighter, thinner ropes are always a trade-off. These are thinner in diameter than I've used before as half ropes and the lighter weight is a plus. But the thinner the rope, the easier it is to get tangled. Just takes extra care in rope management and a willingness to accept that when you climb. Love the quality."

awesome rope. I already purchased

"awesome rope. I already purchased a few more."

Light and functional

"Used this rope for the Tetons Grand Traverse, super light and durable, and surprisingly resistant to tangling/knotting up. Can't wait to use it this winter for ice climbing and some alpine ski missions."

Q&A

Confirming this double rope can be used to bring up two followers (climb as a party of three), like the Elderid Kestrel?
Hi Sasha, yes, the 8.0 Alpine Dry Rope is certified as a half rope (Halfrope) and as a twin rope (Twinrope) according to the EN892 standard for dynamic mountain ropes. 2 half ropes can also be used for a triple rope team. An alternative would be the 8.7 Alpine Sender Dry. Also a half rope / twin rope or even suitable for use as a single rope (i.e. for use in a single strand). The advantage of the 8.7 is that when used in a three-rope team (i.e. when belaying a person on a rope), the 8.7 has more safety reserves in terms of sharp-edge resistance than the 8.0, as the 8.7 is of course somewhat thicker, but in return also somewhat heavier. - Barbara
is there a center mark?
Hi there, yes all our ropes are marked at the central point. Best regards, Mammut UK
Hello, can you confirm the impact force of the 8.0 Alpine Dry Rope, currently is 9.2kn (as stated on your website) very high compared the previous model. I'm interested to this new version, but this impact force seems to high for an half rope compared also to the previous model. Thanks, Mauro
Yes we confirm the accuracy of our product statements because we do all of our in house testing on state of the art equipment along with a stringent quality control at our manufacturing facilities. - Nash
