Sala

A smiling person in a Mammut blue hooded jacket and tan cap, standing outdoors in a snowy mountain landscape.

Ticino, the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland, isn’t known for mixed climbing – but for Filippo Sala, it’s everything. It’s where he grew up, where he fell in love with the mountains, and where his career as a professional mountaineer began. Inspired by his grandfather, a lifelong alpinist, Filippo is now bringing a new style of climbing to his home terrain – not for glory, but to share the beauty of Ticino with others. After all, isn’t that why we do open new routes?

“If
you
always
climb
everything
on
the
first
try,
maybe
you’re
not
pushing
yourself
enough.”

“The
reason
to
open
a
new
route,
is
to
share
it.

Local Legends: A film series about feeling at home on ice

For some, home is linked to a cup of tea and a good book. For others, it’s hanging in a couloir on an ice tool, balancing on two little front points. In this film series, four professional alpinists invite us to understand why being in wild extreme environments makes them feel at ease – all while projecting their climbing routes close to their home.
