WECARE: Mammut is a founding signatory of the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action

Today, the global fashion sector together with UN Climate Change launched the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action. The Charter is aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement and contains the vision to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. As founding signatory, Mammut is demonstrating leadership in the global fight against climate change and affirming its leading role in responsible production.

Under the auspices of UN Climate Change, Mammut together with leading fashion brands, retailers, supplier organizations, and others has agreed to collectively address the climate impact of the fashion sector across its entire value chain. By signing the UN Charter for Climate Action, the Swiss outdoor brand has committed to implementing or supporting the 16 principles and targets that underpin the Fashion Climate Charter.

"I am delighted that Mammut is taking another big step forward in sustainability. The subject is very important to me" Stephan Siegrist, Professional Alpinist

Corresponding with the goals of the Paris Agreement, the Charter defines issues that will be addressed by signatories, ranging from decarbonization of the production phase, selection of climate friendly and sustainable materials, low-carbon transport, improved consumer dialogue and awareness, working with the financing community and policymakers to catalyze scalable solutions, and exploring circular business models. To make concrete progress on these commitments, six working groups have been established in which signatories will work to define steps for implementation.

The signatories are not waiting for these issues to be fully elaborated and have set an initial target to reduce their aggregate greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030. Mammut appreciates that UN Climate Change brought together the industry to work together on this important topic and will develop and publish its corresponding corporate climate strategy during 2019.

"Climate Change is one of the biggest and most urgent challenges of our times. Our glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising and entire regions are drying out. To mitigate global warming and substantially reduce the risks and effects of climate change every country, every industry, every company and every individual needs to contribute. By stepping forward and proactively assuming its responsibility, Mammut hopes to inspire others to follow suit” commented Peter Hollenstein, CR Manager of the Mammut Sports Group AG.

After publishing its Corporate Responsibility targets for the next five years in November, Mammut now takes the next step on its WE CARE journey. A journey which is not only supported by the brand and its employees, but also by Mammut Pro Team Athletes. “With Mammut, I have had a partner at my side that I can trust for over 20 years. The shared values form the basis for this successful long-term cooperation” commented Stephan Siegrist, Mammut Pro Team Athlete Alpine. “I am delighted that Mammut is taking another big step forward in sustainability. The subject is not only important to Mammut but also to me, because nature is a beautiful playground that has to be protected by all of us.”
