Climbing Ropes
MAMMUT Rope Technology

Ropes represent a key activity for Mammut
and have shaped the company's entire history.
It all started back in the 1860s, with Kaspar
Tanner from Switzerland, who twined and
tensioned his ropes outside his shed. High-
quality mountain ropes then became a product
segment in their own right in the 1940s. To
indicate the quality of these ropes, a red
control thread is used in the rope and a seal
featuring a mammoth is applied at one end
as a sign of quality. This animal was the
inspiration for the company's name, Mammut,
meaning 'mammoth' in German. Highly
technical products are used today. Test
specifications and safety standards
provide a guarantee of quality, and
therefore trust in the products. These
developments have made many of today's
mountaineering achievements possible.
