Four days on a steep face, at nearly 6000 meters and minus 20 degrees Celsius - not an experience most people would describe as wonderful. But Marek Holeček and Matěj Bernát are different. Follow them up Sura Peak and into the bars of Kathmandu.

"This
is
our
house.
A
bit
windy,
but
nice."

Simply Beautiful – humor knows no freezing point

The film Simply Beautiful documents their breathtaking feat and takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the descriptions of the two protagonists: from two-time Piolet d'Or winner Marek's desperate search for a partner, to an extended bar crawl through Kathmandu, to victory on the summit of Sura Peak.

Mammut athlete Marek Holeček and his partner, dentist Matěj Bernát, achieved the seemingly impossible in May 2023: the first ascent of the north-west face of the six-thousander Sura Peak in Nepal. In just four days and in alpine style, the two Czechs conquered the 1500-meter route through ice and rock, mastering gradients of up to 90 degrees. 'Alpine style' means no bottled oxygen, Sherpa support, fixed ropes or established high camps. This breathtaking route was given the expressive name "Simply Beautiful". Join Marek and Matěj in the icy cold of the Sura Peak and witness how they hold on to their sense of humor even at minus 20 degrees Celsius.

"My
goal
was
to
come
home
with
all
my
fingers.
I
need
them
at
work."
