Very comfortable

"The device works as expected. I haven't had the rope slip on me at all, and not having to put so much force into holding the rope is nice, especially on longer belay sessions. The difference between the smart and other geometrically assisted devices is that is is very comfortable to hold. It is larger and has rubber cushion on the handle which make it easy to grip and prevents the device from digging into your hand when braking or lowering."

Lightweight, easy to use, safe belay device!

"I have used this style of belay device for many years. I like that it is similar to an ATC in use and weight, but has the added safety of assisted braking. This one replaced an older Mammut Smart 2 that still worked fine, but the finger grip was starting to peel off. This new one looks like it will hold up better. I've recommended this device to many climbing friends. It is also very reasonably priced, which is great. Love the color options as well. Paying out slack is intuitive when lead belaying, and lowering feels safe/secure. No risk of pinching your brake hand as with an ATC. Small and lightweight, unlike a GriGri. I can't think of any negatives!"

Great for learning

"I bought this because my local gym recently started requiring an auto arrest belay device; I’m more partial to an ATC. I do like the feel of this device and I’m fairly impressed with the function. I’ve allowed my kids to use it while learning to belay each other and I like that it will automatically engage when pressured to allow for the learning curve. It’s a little touchy when you first try to use it, but it’s pretty straight forward once you get the hang of it and I like how easy it is to use once that happens. It can be difficult to use with smaller climbers that don’t have a lot of weight, but it’s doable. Overall, I really like it and I’ll keep using it. It is definitely a great option if you want something that will automatically engage and don’t want to pay for a grigri or the like."

Simplisticaly safe.

"Easiest locking belay device I have ever used. Have tried all the others but continue to use this one. Recommend that you use a steel carabiner or a biner with a steel sleeve. Angle of rope through device places excess wear on an aluminum biner."

— Darren P. (5/5)

Disappointing.

"I bought this to replace my original one which had started jamming when the leader got onto steep ground. Wasn’t sure if it was the krab or the device so bought new of each. And I’m still getting jamming, which is odd as I never used to get it. (New rope as well) So the new design is not as good as the old it seems."
