Stabiler, sehr bequemer Rucksack, wenig Fächer
"Stabiler, sehr bequemer Rucksack.

My Ideal Backpack
"As a hiker and photographer, I was super excited to try this bag out. I took this pack on a week-long trip around Oregon, which included a handful of hikes ranging from 4-12 miles each. Before choosing the Ducan Spine I was torn between choosing a camera backpack for the convenience of the easy camera access, and a traditional hiking daypack for the comfort. This pack nails both perfectly for me.
Most daypacks don't have the bottom/mid zip access to the main storage area, but this bag does, and perfectly fits a Peak Design Smedium camera cube which made it super convenient to access my camera gear on the trail; there was never a moment where I felt slow or inconvenienced when accessing my camera gear. I was also able to fit on a Peak Design Capture Clip comfortably on the left shoulder strap right on top of the Mammut logo.
That said, this is still very much a hiking backpack with all of the comforts of being one and more. I was honestly very impressed with the spine technology. I personally tried on and compared the comfort/packability between the Ducan Spine and the Gregory Zulu 30 (which is a great, comfortable pack), but I easily preferred the Ducan Spine because of the comfort and mobility. The bag really does move with your lateral movements which you can't get on other packs even if they have a more flexible frame. I never felt like the backpack was fighting against my movements or pushing/pulling awkwardly when my orientation changed; the difference is night-and-day. Even through our longest day hike (12 miles, 2000ft elevation gain), I was comfortable carrying my camera gear (1 body, 3 lenses), layers (light jacket, pants), snacks, lunch, about 4 liters of water and other small essentials (~25-27 lbs total). With all of the adjustability options and the quality of the straps, it was super easy to find a comfortable position for the pack.
Aside from those two top priorities of mine, everything else worked great. The water bottle sleeves are stretchy, wide around, and deep; I had slim water bottles (and a tripod), but these can probably accommodate wider bottles if needed. The hip-belt pockets have decent room for your phone, snacks, or even a smaller prime lens. The front mesh pocket was perfect for storing wet clothes on the trail for drying. The top and side zipper pockets worked great for holding keys, wallet, sunscreen, etc. There are also a good amount of straps and loops to connect items to on the front of the backpack.
I never needed to extend the rolltop beyond its bottom position, nor use the bottom straps or trekking pole holders, but I appreciate the convenience of having the options, especially for longer hikes or possibly overnight trips (will have to test).
My one and only gripe is that the water bladder hose routing hole is only present on the left side of the pack; it makes sense because on the right side you have that small zipper pocket, but with the camera clip on my left shoulder already, having the water bladder hose connected to the same shoulder strap crowds the left side a bit. Not really an issue, but it would be nice to have the option to route your hose left or right.
Overall, this is a super versatile pack that fits all of my needs. I'm a fan of strong design and engineering, and Mammut definitely nailed it with this one."
