Adam Ondra and Jakob Schubert are digging deep for the last unconquered route of Flatanger.

In the Norwegian municipality of Flatanger lies the imposing cave of Hanshallaren. Here, every now and then, you can hear drawn-out, primal screams emanating from the depths of the sprawling granite cavern, echoing over the near by fjords. The authentic Stone Age scenario is provided by Jakob Schubert and Adam Ondra, as they dig deep into“Project Big”. “Project Big” is a route set up by Ondra along the left flank of the cave. It should come as little surprise that the complex and overhanging 50m route is a tactically demanding test of strength. It is, in fact, the last unclimbed line in the legendary cave and with an estimated difficulty of 9b+/c, is one of the hardest routes in the world. It’s a fitting challenge for Ondra and Schubert. And when two of the world's best climbers project hard routes together, we all profit from the inevitably incredible films to come from it. “I
guess
the
biggest
benefit
of
trying
the
route
together
is
that
we
can
cry
on
each
other’s
shoulders
and
complain
about
the
f*ing
conditions.”
